My curly hair journey started when I was 27 and became pregnant with my first daughter. My hair started to grow and once it met a certain length I felt comfortable to wear it curly, I was always the girl who flat ironed and wore it straight.
Let’s be honest, I grew up being made fun of for my frizzy, curly red hair and I wasn’t going fall victim to the snide comments once the Chi flat iron came out. Nevertheless, fast forward to a few years and cosmetology school later. It was this point that I fully embraced my curly hair. I new during cosmo school that I wanted to become a curly hair specialist.
In my heart I always knew there as something out there but didn’t know where. After some research, I hoped on a plane and started my journey in New York at the Deva Curl Academy in aspirations of becoming a Curly Hair Specialist. It was best decision I ever made. Not only did I get a rad, new trendy curl cut but it was there where I learned how to take care of my hair. It was that moment in time that had changed my life forever.
I finally felt comfortable in my own curls and I could actually help other people like me feel the same way about their curls. I’m going on two years now completely natural and I haven’t looked back.
I always tell everyone I started to wear my curly about 5 years ago but it was two years ago that I learned how to really care for my hair and to have a Curl expectation.
